((sorry I haven't posted in so long; my parents grounded me from the computer again))
Multiple Grade 1 winner Rock Hard Ten retired
"Multiple Grade 1 winner Rock Hard Ten has been retired after the detection of worn cartilage in his left front sesamoid.
Owners Madeleine Paulson and Ernie Moody have not announced stud plans for the four-year-old son of Kris S. out of French Group 1 winner Tersa, by Mr. Prospector.
Rock Hard Ten won graded stakes in each of his last four starts, including the 2004 Malibu Stakes (G1) at seven furlongs and ’05 Santa Anita Handicap (G1) at 1 ¼ miles. He missed the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) on October 29 at Belmont Park after the discovery of a foot bruise on the eve of the race.
"After his undefeated four-year-old campaign we are saddened by this decision but felt it was in ‘The Rock’s’ best interest to retire him at this point," trainer Richard Mandella said. "Given the tremendous interest in him as a stallion prospect we hope his career at stud will be as great as his racing one was."
Racing Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens, who rode Rock Hard Ten in his last four starts, referred to him as "the best horse I ever sat on."
Rock Hard Ten finished second in the 2004 Preakness Stakes (G1) and scored wins in the 2004 Swaps Breeders’ Cup Stakes (G2) and ’05 Strub Stakes (G2) and Goodwood Breeders’ Cup Handicap (G2). He retires with seven wins in 11 career starts and earnings of $1,870,380. "
